✨This past Wednesday, the Tigris Foundation sponsored a Beginners ASL Class at the Abington Library led by Karen Kennedy from the Deaf-Hearing Communications Center! 🙌

Participants from grades 4-8 learned all about deaf culture, basic vocabulary, and ASL grammar! 👩‍🏫

We asked some of the kids why they wanted to learn ASL—here’s what they had to say:

⭐️“It’s a good tool.”

⭐️“To support a friend who is hard of hearing!”

⭐️“In case I ever have to help a deaf person.”

Thank you to the Deaf-Hearing Communications Center for helping inspire the next generation to learn ASL! 🧡

LAND & LABOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The Tigris Foundation is dedicated to fostering community. We acknowledge that our offices sit on the unceded land of the Lenape people and recognize that this land was worked on by enslaved Africans. To the Lenape people, past, present, and future generations, as well as to the experience of enslaved Africans and their descendants, may this living land acknowledgement serve as a starting point for change.
