The Urban Bloom Gardening Ambassadors Program, in collaboration with the Southwest Leadership Academy and the Black Farmers Coop, is off to a great start!

In their latest class, the students learned about the different parts of a plant and put on a puppet production taking place on a farm! They also shared their “Me bags” in which they brought in objects that help define their identity. They later planted vegetables in paper cups that they will eventually harvest and plant in their garden! 🥕

The Urban Bloom Gardening Ambassadors Program is an innovative project that empowers students to transform their school grounds into a thriving garden, guided by experienced Master Farmers who share their expertise and mentorship.

As the students learn about farming in this 6 week program, they will also be getting their hands dirty in a new community garden being built at the Southwest Leadership Academy’s new location!

🍎Sign up on www.blackfarmersco-op.org to volunteer at one of their local Philadelphia gardens!

LAND & LABOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The Tigris Foundation is dedicated to fostering community. We acknowledge that our offices sit on the unceded land of the Lenape people and recognize that this land was worked on by enslaved Africans. To the Lenape people, past, present, and future generations, as well as to the experience of enslaved Africans and their descendants, may this living land acknowledgement serve as a starting point for change.
